One race set to be closely-contested is Albuquerque's District 15’s Democratic state senate seat where Heather Berghmans is running against incumbent Daniel Ivey-Soto. Whoever wins the seat will be up against Republican Craig Degenhardt in the general election.

A whistleblower lawsuit filed against the city claims city officials ignored warnings of asbestos exposure during construction, and used the Risk Management Department's funding as a 'slush fund' to illegally make payments.

A former city manager within the Risk Management Division filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the City of Albuquerque on May 17 citing intimidation, false accusations and disregard for workplace safety laws concerning asbestos at the Gateway Center.
