Health officials in Northern New Mexico are turning to social media to get residents involved in a discussion about the state's Medicaid program.

Rio Arriba County Officials are hosting their second annual health fair in Española tomorrow.  In addition to dental screenings and immunizations, the event features – a Twitter Town Hall.

In rural areas  social media  can be an important tool for communications.  US Representative Ben RayLujan will moderate a panel of experts who will answer tweeted questions about Medicaid services.

Lauren Reichelt is with Rio Arriba County.  She says since her office put out word about the twitter town hall, people have been submitting their questions via twitter on all things Medicaid, including queries about who will be covered under the Affordable Care Act, and whether the state will support local nonprofits under Medicaid Expansion.

The panel will include representatives of the State Human Services Department, Attorney General Gary King, Senator Linda Lopez and medical professionals.

The Twitter Town Hall begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday.  Questions can be tweeted via hashtag#HealthierNM.
