NM to host summit on state's black population

The New Mexico State Office of African American Affairs is convening a summit on black residents living in the state.

The office announced Tuesday that the summit will be held in Albuquerque on Sept. 21.

Yvette Kaufman-Bell, the office's executive director, said the event will be used to develop solutions of poverty and unemployment in the state's black community.

Blacks make up less than 3 percent of the state's population.
