New Mexico Leads US In Export Growth To Foreign Countries

Gov. Susana Martinez says New Mexico now is leading the nation in export growth to foreign countries.

According to the International Trade Administration, New Mexico's merchandise exports increased 42 percent in 2012 to $3 billion.

That represents a growth of nearly a billion dollars from 2011.

The 2012 export growth ranking marks a substantial increase over two years ago, when New Mexico was ranked 38th in export growth.

Martinez scheduled a news conference Tuesday afternoon to discuss recent record trade numbers between New Mexico and Mexico.

She also plans to talk about economic development on the southern border and her legislative efforts to promote export growth and further develop New Mexico's economy.
