Irrigation Season Ends Along New Mexico's Middle Rio Grande - The Associated Press

The irrigation season is coming to a close along the middle Rio Grande in central New Mexico.

Officials with the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District say water deliveries will cease Saturday and the focus will shift to maintenance projects in preparation for next year.

The district started out the season with no water in storage, but heavy rains in May and June allowed officials to store more than 90,000 acre-feet for future use. An acre-foot is about enough water to supply two households for a year.

When temperatures heated up and it dried out in August and September, the district had to release some water. Temperatures remained high through October, resulting in additional releases.

Water Operations Manager David Gensler says Mother Nature is unpredictable but provided for a full season this year with no curtailments.

Air Service To Begin Between Los Alamos, Albuquerque - The Associated Press

A commercial airline says it plans to begin service between Los Alamos and Albuquerque this weekend.

Boutique Air's first flight from the Los Alamos Municipal Airport is scheduled for Sunday. A ribbon-cutting ceremony organized by the airline and Los Alamos County will take place Monday.

The schedule will feature three daily round-trip flights between the cities.

The airline's chief executive, Shawn Simpson, says Los Alamos is a unique community that's oriented around world-class research so the airline expects it to be a significant destination for many.

Los Alamos is home to one of the nation's premiere nuclear weapons laboratories. It will also host part of the new Manhattan Project National Historical Park.

Aside from New Mexico, Boutique Air offers routes in several states, including Arizona, California, Texas, Colorado, and Nebraska

Las Cruces Man Indicted For Allegedly Molesting 2 Kids - The Associated Press

A Las Cruces man has been indicted on charges stemming from allegations that he sexually molested his girlfriend's two young children.

A Third District Court grand jury indicted 25-year-old Bobby Mendoza on Friday of 13 counts of criminal sexual penetration.

Mendoza was also indicted on two counts each of second- and third-degree criminal sexual contact of a minor.

He is also facing two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of evidence tampering.

State Child Protective Services received information that Mendoza allegedly was sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy.

Police say Mendoza had been in a relationship with the children's mother for three years.

It's unclear if Mendoza has a lawyer.

If convicted, Mendoza faces a minimum of 19 years in prison.
