Santa Fe County Worker Accused Of Stealing Government Items - The Associated Press

A Santa Fe County public works employee is in custody after allegedly stealing government items to sell online.

County sheriff's officials say Chris Ruybal allegedly tried to sell two sets of brand new tires on a Facebook garage sale page for locals in Alamosa, Colorado.

Authorities say Ruybal is a fleet service manager with Santa Fe County.

He identified himself as a government employee to a potential buyer, who's an employee with the Alamosa Sheriff's Office.

Santa Fe County Sheriff's officials located the Facebook postings and contacted Ruybal to set up a meeting.

They made contact with Ruybal at his work Friday and say he confessed to selling stolen merchandise.

Ruybal was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement and conspiracy to commit embezzlement.

It's unclear if he has a lawyer yet.

Date For Reopening Nuke Dump In New Mexico Being Pushed Back - The Associated Press

Officials at the federal government's troubled nuclear waste repository in southern New Mexico say the target date for reopening is being pushed back.

The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant has been closed since a February 2014 radiation release that stemmed from a chemical reaction among waste improperly packed inside a drum.

The target date for resuming waste emplacement operations was March 2016.

But officials said Friday that the date "is no longer viable due to a variety of unanticipated issues."

They anticipate having a revised cost and schedule plan sometime this fall.

Since the mishap, all air exiting the underground passes through filters. Ventilation of the underground is reduced based on the filter capacity.

Officials say more airflow will allow more workers to be in the underground at any given time.
