Defense attorneys in the murder trial of the former Albuquerque police officers who killed James Boyd spent Tuesday trying to pick apart the credibility of an expert witness for the prosecution.
Jeff Noble is the former deputy police chief of a department in Irvine, California, who specializes in use of force. The defense team attacked his history, his knowledge and the fact that he’s being paid by the state for his testimony.
On the stand, Noble criticized the actions of the officers nearest Boyd.
"When you create a reckless plan, a plan that any reasonable officer would know is reckless, that shows a utter disregard or indifference to the situation that you’re putting yourself into, that you’re creating a danger, you’re ignoring the possible consequences of that danger, that things are going to go bad," he said.
Keith Sandy and Dominique Perez are facing second-degree murder charges and up to 15 years in prison for killing Boyd in 2014. Footage of the shooting sparked demonstrations in Albuquerque.
