Carlsbad Student Organizes National Second Amendment Rights Walkouts

May 2, 2018

A high schooler from Carlsbad organized the Stand for the Second movement Wednesday for students who support the Second Amendment.

Will Riley said he’s not really into guns and doesn’t have the answers for how to end school shootings, but he created the walkouts after seeing his generation depicted in the media as anti-gun rights.

"The one thing that we cannot do is start taking away the human rights of our fellow citizens," Riley said.

The 18-year-old said he’s gotten a lot of support from his peers.

"I think that there’s students around the country who generally would not have been able to speak up about this and I’m just happy that I’m giving those people a platform to do that," he said.

Students started calling for tighter gun restrictions in response to the school shootings happening around the country. Organizers had marches of their own earlier this year.
