KUNM Seeks Two Candidates for Public Health Project

KUNM News has a new grant-funded project to report on poverty and public health in New Mexico. The project team needs a strong Program Coordinator to assist in building and sustaining the project.

This position is currently funded at half-time (20 hours per week) with full UNM benefits through June 30, 2013. Funding for two additional years is available based on project success.

The hours for this position may increase as additional funds are secured for the project.

Description of Duties related to the Project.

Plans and coordinates the day-to-day administrative and operational activities of the KUNM Poverty and Public Health project. Communicates details of the project and progress reporting with funding partners. Helps manage project budget. Coordinates equipment check out, time sheets and other regular needs of the project team. Maintains correspondence and communication with contacts and community groups invested in poverty and health issues. May coordinate and organize special events (panel discussions, public forums).

Preferred Qualifications include:  Highly organized, skilled with computers and software such as Excel and Word, advanced writing skills, experience coordinating and organizing special events, high degree of spoken Spanish language proficiency with a high degree of reading/writing Spanish language proficiency.

Description of Duties related to the Project. Bring strong Journalistic skills to collect and analyze information about newsworthy events to write and produce news stories for publication or broadcast. Will work with a team specializing in reporting on the broad topics of poverty and public health in New Mexico. 

Preferred Qualifications include:  Experience in public radio reporting preferred but not required. Preference for high degree of fluency in conversational Spanish. Preference for experience reporting and/or working in diverse communities in New Mexico. Preference for Reporting on southwest regional issues. Ability to travel to assignments offsite.
