Production This person is responsible for the overall radio show. They make sure that everyone else is ready, and that everyone has what they need. The producer is usually not on the air. This way they are free to run around and help everyone else. The producer makes sure that the hosts have their scripts, that the music director has all the music selected, and that the engineer has everything they need. The producer prepares the rundown for the show, which is a list of all the elements in the show.
Engineering This person is in charge of the technical parts of the live broadcast. They work the microphones, play the pre-recorded segments and the music on CDs. They also play any other required announcements or spots. They make sure there's enough headphones in the studio. This person must learn the technical requirements and pass a test, so they can sign the program log.
Reporter This person records interviews for a story with a main focus. The interview sound bites are combined with a written script to produce a pre-recorded news report.
DJ/On-air host The host is live on the air during the broadcast of our youth radio show. We’ll have two hosts. They will introduce the pre-recorded segments and the music. They will also conduct interviews on-air and facilitate live discussions
Music This person picks out the music that will be featured on the live radio show. They work with the producer and the rest of the team to decide a theme, and then they pick music from the KUNM library or they can bring their own music. The music must meet the guidelines for daytime airplay (no indecency or obscenity).
Writing Radio Essays This is a person who writes an essay or an editorial that is either read on the air live, or prerecorded. Commentaries can either include recorded interview bits or sound bites
