When the oil and gas industry takes a dive, or when extractive industries tank, so do economies in rural areas, where a lot of the jobs come from drilling, or mining, or power plants. A business incubator is helping entrepreneurs on the Navajo Nation with the idea that local skills and talents—and cash flowing in and out of local businesses—are key to independence from environmentally damaging corporations.

The Russian punk band and art collective Pussy Riot brought their Revolution tour to Albuquerque in March. One of their original members stopped by the studios at New Mexico PBS to talk about the group’s work opposing war and oppression.

After thousands protested for months on the North Dakota prairie, the Dakota Access Pipeline is moving forward under President Trump.  But the battle over this controversial project continues in court.

A new documentary looks at multiple instances of tribal resistance to energy development called Beyond Standing Rock.  It's produced by Inside Energy, a public media project focused on America's energy issues.

As President of the University of New Mexico from 1948-1968, Thomas L. Popejoy understood the value of the performing arts and having a proper hall to house them. He also understood the obstacles in getting such a hall built.

The 2016 election is just around the corner, less than four weeks away. Republican Supreme Court Justice Judith Nakamura is running to keep her seat on the bench. Democrat Chief New Mexico Appeals Court Judge Michael Vigil is challenging her. The candidates sat down for a conversation as part of KUNM’s special election coverage with New Mexico PBS.

Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton meet Thursday night on a debate stage in Milwaukee. It's their first face-to-face matchup since Tuesday's New Hampshire primary where Sanders beat Clinton by more than 20 points.

Governor Susana Martinez delivered her State of the State address to lawmakers on the opening day of the 2016 legislative session Tuesday.

Martinez said cracking down on crime is her top priority. She pointed to fatal shootings of police officers and crimes committed by “boomerang thugs” who’ve been in and out of jail.
