Thousands of Kids' Books Collected For City Buses

People dropped off children’s books by the carload Thursday at a bus stop on Albuquerque’s west side.

The goal was to literally stuff a city bus with tens of thousands of kids’ books as part of the Discover a Book program. They will be used to resupply the cubby of free books found on all of Albuquerque’s buses.

Nick Manole works with ABQ Ride and says since they started putting kids’ books on the buses almost 10 years ago they realized that many adults were reading them, too.

Banned and Challenged Books Highlighted During Banned Book Week

For the 30th year, libraries across the country next week are highlighting books that some people have wanted removed from the shelves. Banned Books Week is promoted by the American Libraries Association as an opportunity to celebrate the First Amendment and freedom of speech and the press. KUNM's Elaine Baumgartel has more.

Martha Egan's New Book Offers Up a Slice of Fictional New Mexico

Stories can capture a little slice of culture. That's especially true in the writing of Martha Egan.

She's lived in New Mexico since the mid 1970s and owns the Latin American folk art and antiques gallery Pachamama in Santa Fe.
