We got carried away on our annual Balloon Fiesta special on October 5, 2013. We interviewed balloon enthusiasts from around the world, including kids chasing hot air balloons drifting across the New Mexico skies, artists crafting masterpieces out of balloons, and we learned about the history and science of hot air ballooning. This is an interview with Airigami's artists, Larry Moss and Kelly Cheatle.
Sat 9/28, 9am: For nearly 400 million years, insects have been the most abundant animals on the planet, and account for nearly 20% of all life on Earth today. The Children's Hour will find out about the Albuquerque Biopark's month-long Creepy Crawling Critters show with the park's entomologist, Ralph Charlton. Using live insects, we'll explore these creatures and their place in our ecosystem. Join us as KUNM gets bugged!
Sat 5/4 9a: For millions of years, dinosaurs roamed all over what is now the State of New Mexico. Some lived in the ocean waters that once covered what today is land. Others lived in the prehistoric forests, plains, and beaches, leaving behind fossilized footprints which are still visible today. Mrs. Estes' intrepid Third graders from Manzano Mesa Elementary have been studying the dinosaurs of New Mexico, and will present their research, mixed with dinosaur music, poetry and stories.
Sat. 11/17 9a: We will Celebrate National Adoption Day. Also, we'll answer the question "Is this an el Niño or la Niña winter?" Kerry Jones, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service will pay us a visit to talk all about our weather. And, have you ever seen a horsehair worm? We haven't either! But Patricia from UNM's Department of Biology will teach us all about these critters. Join us!
Sat. 7/28 9a: Assistance animals help people in numerous ways. We talked with Marcie Davis from the organization Working Like Dogs. She uses an assistance dog and shares information about what an assistance animal can do for people. Did you know there are assistance cats and even monkeys? In celebration of International Assistance Dog Week, we let the dogs run the show, on The Children's Hour.
Sat. 4/7 9a: April is Autism Awareness month, and on The Children's Hour, we'll be talking about autism with people who know first hand what it's like. 1 in 88 kids born today will be diagnosed with autism: how can we be sure these kids get all the help they need, and how can we help them? Join us on The Children's Hour for the Autism show.

World renown veterinarian, author and television celebrity, Marty Becker will spend the hour with us talking about all things related to dogs. We'll give listeners a chance to call in with their dog training questions, and of course you can expect excellent dog music.

Sat. 5/21 at 9am: This Saturday on The Children's Hour, we'll be joined in the studio by acclaimed teen actor RJ Mitte from the cast of Breaking Bad talking with us about reaching dreams, believing in yourself and triumphing over bullying. We'll also learn about Camp Enchantment, a New Mexico camp for kids coping with cancer.
Sat. 3/26 at 9am: Wildlife Rescue joins us in the studio to talk about how kids can help save the lives of injured wildlife. We will also have a visit from kids at an East Mountain elementary school who are on a mission to have a school grown salad bar at their school. Plus great music, an events calendar for kids, and so much more.
Sat. 1/29: This Saturday, the Children's Hour crew will be joined by folks from Animal Protection New Mexico and the Animal Humane Society of New Mexico to learn about how to be responsible pet owners, and how kids can help protect the animals of New Mexico.
