Mar. 3/8 11a: The development of art schools, like the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, has drawn many Natives away from their home to pursue their dreams of becoming an artist.
Some believe that you can’t call yourself an artist until you are living off your art.
Does graduating art school give you the right to claim the title of artist? Or is it the number of art shows that you attend? Are you an artist if you makes something that inspires your creativity? What is your definition of a Native artist?
Guests include Marvin Oliver (Qinault/Isleta) Native American Sculptor and Professor of American Indian Studies at the University of Washington-Seattle.
