Rally In Albuquerque For Action On Climate Change

Laura Paskus

A coalition of local groups is planning to rally Saturday morning in Albuquerque to call for immediate action to stop human-caused climate change.

Joan Brown is the Executive Director of New Mexico Interfaith Power and Light, a multi-faith based organization focused on climate change issues. "We need to act and do our individual part but we also need to act collectively," Brown said. "The very future of our living here in this beautiful state with our family and friends depends upon it."

Over two dozen groups are participating in the Rally At The Rio, where Central Avenue crosses the Rio Grande, including Wild Earth Guardians, Citizens Climate Lobby, and Physicians for Social Responsibility of New Mexico.

Despite recent heavy rains, much of the state is still experiencing extreme to exceptional drought conditions.

Elaine Baumgartel was KUNM's News Director from 2013 to 2019. She was local Morning Edition host from 2007 through 2012 and she regularly hosted the station's live news and public affairs show for some years. Elaine originally came on board at KUNM as a volunteer and student employee in 2003.
