Part of a youth hunter education program sponsored by the National Rifle Association may be in jeopardy because of a scarcity of ammunition.
The Albuquerque Journal (http://bit.ly/ZzArWH ) reports that the Youth Hunter Education Challenge is held every other summer at an NRA center near Raton.
The event's state coordinator, Rick Andes of Clovis, says it's possible that the .22-caliber part of this year's event might have to be scrapped due to a run on ammunition.
Andes says that's due to fears that the federal government may restrict gun ownership by banning certain weapons and magazines.
Andes says he's contacted manufacturers but so far hasn't been able to find the needed 3,500 to 4,000 rounds of .22 ammunition.
This year's event is scheduled May 31 through June 2.
