NM Game Agency Helps Pay For Forest Road Rerouting
The state Game and Fish Department has agreed to split the cost with the federal government to revamp a road to provide sportsmen with access to about 20,000 of public land in southwestern New Mexico.
The agency said a half-mile of Forest Road 886 will be rerouted around a mining claim in the Gila National Forest. The road was closed a decade ago by the owners of the mine claim, preventing people from using motor vehicles to gain access to public land for elk, deer and turkey hunting.
The revamped road is to be finished in time for the 2013-14 big game hunting season.
