NM Extends Green Building Tax Credits Through 2016
Tax credits for sustainable residential and commercial buildings in New Mexico are being extended.
The New Mexico Energy Conservation and Management Division says the credits will be available through 2016.
The 2013 fund for residential tax credits has already reached its $5 million cap. The cap was also reached well before the end of the year in 2012, which resulted in $1.9 million in residential applications being rolled into this year.
State officials say tax credits that are approved this year will be rolled into the 2014 fund made available by legislation approved and recently signed by Gov. Susana Martinez.
Energy Conservation and Management Division director Louise Martinez says the tax credits serve as an incentive for building higher quality buildings and encouraging energy efficiency.
