16 years as a senator in the New Mexico Legislature gave Dede Feldman lots of stories of both triumphs and defeats.
Feldman recalls entering the legislature as a reformer, who was a little naive about New Mexico politics, although she had taught classes in government . She used her reporter skills to keep track of what went on-- taking notes during hearings, floor sessions, and even in party caucuses. After she retired, Feldlman put the stories together to show how things work behind the scenes in Santa Fe. She ends her book with a series of suggestions for other reformers who want to carry on the work.
