Negotiations Continue Between Hospital Managers and Union
By Andy Lyman
Albuquerque, NM – Contract negotiations between Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center and it's employees broke down again today.
The hospital's spokesperson, Alturo Delgado, told the Santa Fe Reporter that they brought in a federal mediator because time was running out and no progress was being made.
Peter Feng is a spokesperson for the American Federation of State County & Municipal Employees. He says if no deal is reached and the union decides to strike, the whole community will suffer because "what is primarily at stake, first and foremost, is the compassionate community based care which has been delivered by St Vincent's nurses and hospital employees for the last 35 years, using the highest ethical standards."
Christus St. Vincent is the only Level III Trauma center in Northern New Mexico and the largest hospital between Albuquerque and Pueblo, Colorado. Negotiations have been ongoing since May.
