Thu. 2/23 11a: John Pingayak, a Chup'ik cultural leader and actor from Chevak, Alaska, is helping to turn Hollywood’s eye to Alaska's Native culture in the blockbuster movie "Big Miracle" now showing in theaters.
His name goes beyond the big screen, however. Over the years Pingayak has educated the masses by helping to keep the gifts of Chup’ik language and tradition alive and strong. His work in the field of traditional music has also helped breathe new life into the old Native ways.
Will his brush with Hollywood fame change his lifestyle?
