The Mesmerist by Leslie McMurtry

Sun. 11/03 6p: A reprise of an original radio play by Albuquerque writer Leslie McMurty which received its world premiere on KUNM’s Radio Theatre in 2010.

The Mesmerist is a haunting period piece based on the author’s research into the Great Exhibition, sometimes referred to as the Crystal Palace Exhibition held in London in 1851, and the work of Franz Anton Mesmer on "animal magnetism."  Francois Daudet, a French mesmerist who gives demonstrations at the Exhibition, is retained by a young British widow to treat her. A scandal ensues as she dares to appear with him onstage. Is he a charlatan? Is she mad?  Is his treatment effective?

It stars Albuqerque actors Remy Rotinier in the title role, with Brianna Stallings, Wil Moore, Jessi Badami, and Busterlee Monarco.  From Camino Real Productions, directed by Linda Lopez McAlister.
