Medical Collaboration in Africa - Another Great Idea

Fri. 8/5 at 8am: Our guests are Dr Robert Glew Professor of Biochemistry and Microbiology and Research Associate Professor Dorothy VanderJagt Nutritionist, both are from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the UNM Medical School.

Drs Glew and VanderJagt developed a "Scholars Program" that introduced students from the University of New Mexico with health issues in Nigeria. Their research was done in collaboration with young physicians and faculty, at the University of Jos. Our guests explain why they chose the University of Jos for the study of maternal/child health problems, fatty acid metabolism, sickle cell anemia, maternal/child health, nutrition assessment, and body composition in sub-Saharan Africa. Professors Glew and VanderJagt discuss their remarkable achievements made both in Africa and New Mexico as a result of their research collaboration.
