Lovington Hospital Plans $16M Expansion

Officials at Nor-Lea Hospital in southeastern New Mexico are planning another expansion that will include a new clinic, more parking and possibly apartments and senior living facilities.

The Lovington hospital completed an $18 million expansion just two years ago. The plans included in the 10- to 15-year master plan that was unveiled this week call for spending another $16 million.

Nor-Lea administrator David Shaw tells the Hobbs News-Sun that the first phase of the plan will be a new clinic and parking lot. Construction will begin this summer.

The clinic will add 50,000 square feet to the hospital's facilities, making room for more primary care doctors.

The hospital's patient load has continued to grow, spurring the need for more space. Shaw pointed to a 17 percent growth in the county's population.
