Live and Local - From Samba to Swing

Sat 1/19 7p: Live Jazz at the Albuquerque Amphitheater.  Two acts took the stage this summer as part of the Jazz Under the Stars series put on by the New Mexico Jazz Workshop.

Bert Dalton Brazil Project—Led by pianist, Bert Dalton, The Brazil Project performs a blend fo traditional, contemporary, and original Brazilian music featuring samba, bossa nova, the excitement of carnival and top-flight jazz and Latin improvisations. The Brazil Project features Patty Stephens- vocals, Rob “Milo” Jaramillo-bass, Frank Leto-percussion, Bert Dalton-piano, John Bartlit-drums.

Charlie Christian Project--The Charlie Christian Project is a tribute to the music of legendary guitarist, Charlie Christian who, though he died at the age of 25 (1916-1939), left an enormous legacy. Both as the house guitarist at New York’s Minton’s Playhouse and a member of the historic Benny Goodman Sextet, Christian led the transition from swing to bebop and pushed the electric guitar into the spotlight when it was in its infant stages. Formed in February, 2011 at the urging of bassist, Micky Patten, tonight’s ensemble features longtime Albuquerque resident and Los Angeles session guitarist, Michael Anthony; Grammy award winning trumpeter, Bobby Shew and drummer, Cal Haines.
