Judge Sends Albuquerque Police Crash Case To Trial

A judge has ruled that the case of an Albuquerque police sergeant charged in a deadly crash can proceed to a trial.

A criminal complaint charges Sgt. Adam Casaus with vehicular homicide and great bodily injury by vehicle in a Feb. 10 crash that killed a 21-year-old woman and seriously injured her younger sister.

State District Judge Kenneth Martinez ruled at Tuesday's preliminary hearing that probable cause exists for prosecutors to take Casaus to trial.

Casaus has claimed he was trying to track down a drunken driver before his police cruiser slammed into the other vehicle.

Records reportedly show that no dispatchers told Casaus to look out for a drunken driver before the crash and he logged off his last call almost four hours before the accident.
