Fri. 2/8 10a: On February 16, high school-aged pianists and string players from around New Mexico will gather in Keller Hall at UNM in Albuquerque to compete for cash prizes and performance opportunities in the Music Guild of New Mexico's 20th annual Young Artists' Concerto Competition. The public is invited to attend. Spencer Beckwith speaks with the Music Guild volunteer who started the Competition, and for whom it is now named, Albuquerque resident Jackie McGehee.
Spencer Beckwith reports on the arts for KUNM. For ten years, until March of 2014, Spencer was the producer and host of KUNM's "Performance New Mexico," a weekday morning arts program that included interviews with musicians, writers and performers. Spencer is a graduate of the acting program at the Juilliard School, and, before moving to New Mexico in 2002, was for many years a professional actor based in New York City.
