Henry "Skipper" Franklin

Thurs. 2/17 at noon: Today we'll be featuring the music of Los Angeles bassist Henry Franklin who is known on the coast as The Skipper and his ensembles are his Crew.

I became aware of the Skipper via the monumental records he made with Bobby Bradford & John Carter in the late 60s and early 70s. But, Henry is also known for his work with Hampton Hawes, Harold Land, Pharoah Sanders, Sonny Rollins, Milt Jackson, making gold records with Hugh Masekela, as well as CEO Skipper of his own record company Skipper Productions. We'll also speak with Henry over the telephone Live from his home in Perris, California, because there is so much to talk about, wow!
