Headlines: Santa Fe Commission Delays Vote On Hospital, Roswell Airport Gets $9M

Santa Fe Commission Delays Vote On $40M Hospital Expansion - The Associated Press

Santa Fe officials are delaying a vote on whether to allow a proposed expansion of a hospital that is one of the city's largest private employers.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that the Santa Fe Planning Commission decided Thursday to postpone the vote on the $40 million expansion of Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center until August.

The plan calls for a new 65,000-square-foot, two-story hospital wing that would house more private rooms.

Area residents say they are worried about the increased traffic and construction noise the project would generate.

Commission members also have similar concerns.

The hospital wants the new building completed by 2018.

The commission will now vote Aug. 6.

Roswell airport gets $9M in federal funding - The Associated Press

The Roswell airport has received a federal grant that will help boost planned renovations.

The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports that the Roswell International Air Center has been awarded $9 million by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The funds will go toward the third phase of a four-phase project to bolster 5,000 feet of runway.

U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich announced the grant earlier in the week in a news release.

Both senators say improving local airports is critical to strengthening economic development and travel.

The airport received a $450,000 grant last October to begin flight service to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
