New Mexico Governor Has Until April 10 To Sign BillsThe Associated Press

Republican Gov. Susana Martinez has until April 10 to act on bills passed during the just-concluded 60-day legislative session.

The bills she doesn't sign by then will be considered pocket vetoed.

Martinez had signed five and vetoed one as of Friday afternoon.

New Mexico lawmakers passed 191 bills during this session. The Albuquerque Journal reports that's the lowest number for a 60-day session since 1949.

This was also the first time in six decades that the GOP had control of the House. The Democrats maintained their edge in the Senate.

A number of Republican-sponsored bills ran aground in the Senate during a rancorous session, including a right-to-work initiative, a ban on late-term abortions and repealing the law allowing driver's licenses for people in the county illegally.

'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Premiere To Screen In Santa Fe The Associated Press

HBO and author George R.R. Martin are giving fans in Santa Fe an early look at the fifth season premiere of "Game of Thrones."

The network is holding an invitation-only screening Saturday night at the Jean Cocteau Cinema, which is owned by Martin.

Mayor Javier Gonzalez and cast members of the movie, "The Magnificent Six," are also expected to attend.

There will be a reception before the 7:30 p.m. screening.

Martin is the author of the fantasy book series, "A Song of Ice and Fire," that inspired the television show about royals and renegades fighting for the Iron Throne.

The season premiere is set to air on HBO on April 12.

Albuquerque Becomes State's First 'Purple Heart City' The Associated Press

There will soon be new signs popping up around Albuquerque to reflect its designation as a "Purple Heart City."

Mayor Richard Berry unveiled the signs during a news conference Friday.

The first of 36 signs that will be installed around the city will be located at the intersection of Eubank and Southern, adjacent to the Nuclear Museum.

The effort is part of a national campaign by the Military Order of the Purple Heart of the USA to recognize those who have received the prestigious military decoration.

City officials say there are over 2,000 Purple Heart recipients who reside in New Mexico.

Albuquerque is one of over 960 cities around the nation to accept the "purple heart city" designation.
