Climate Activist Kids

Our Children's Trust, CC

The Children's Hour welcomed kids who are actively trying to save the planet. Aji Piper joined us from Seattle to talk about the lawsuit that he and 19 other kids are involved with to hold governments accountable for pollution. The kids are winning their cases, and that's good news for us all. This show was recorded live at KUNM on May 28, 2016.

Plus we'll be joined by some of the musicians in the New Mexico Philharmonic to learn about their efforts to educate kids about the environment and the symphony, and how they join together.  The KUNM Kids Birthday Club, a family events calendar, great music, and so much more, every Saturday at 9am.

Katie Stone is the host and producer of The Children's Hour radio show and podcast. The show's goal is to bring informative, entertaining and engaging radio programming to listeners of all ages, showcasing local kids and kid-friendly organizations, while involving kids in all aspects of the production. Katie works with a crew of dedicated children who help produce the show, including writing and voicing scripts and reviews, helping choose jokes, show themes, music and guests, and assisting in all aspects of the live broadcast. Katie also reaches into the community, with regular live broadcasts from venues across New Mexico. She also partners with teachers to create radio shows for class projects, and joins with community organizations to bring kids voices to public radio. She hopes everyone listening comes away with new knowledge about the topic du jour. Katie started in radio when she was just 14 years old at WDGC-fm in Downers Grove, Illinios. Katie is the executive director of The Children's Hour, Inc, a New Mexico nonprofit dedicated to creating and distributing public radio for kids. The show is produced at the Sun Spot Solar Studio. Katie and her husband have raised four kids, and are delighted to be grandparents. They live in a handmade house on a solar powered organic farm in Albuquerque near the Rio Grande tending their orchard, gardens, chickens, children, a llama, cats, dogs, fish and thousands of bees.
