About KUNM's Podcasts
Podcasts from KUNM -- a KUNM.org service that lets you download audio recordings of some of our most popular live programs and informational programs, such as our daily News stories, the Call-In Show, Ear to the Ground, the Friday Public Affairs broadcasts, etc.
We encourage you to start subscribing to our podcasts; please contact us with *any* problems you experience. If you do, please let us know: what platform you were on (e.g. PC, Mac, Linux, etc.), what operating system (e.g. XP, 98, SX, OS9, etc) and finally, what podcast software you were using (e.g. iPodder, iTunes, etc.).

What is a Podcast?
Podcasting makes an audio file, typically an MP3 file, available online for downloading via a "subscription." In other words, whenever KUNM posts a new, high-quality MP3 file -- say, a complete Call-in Show, or an Ear to the Ground broadcast -- the audio recording is automatically downloaded to your computer and/or your portable MP3 player (like an iPod). You can then listen to the recording of the broadast whenever -- and perhaps wherever -- you wish.
Note that the audio is downloaded for you "in the background", while you are doing other things. If you are generally online with a dial-up modem, or via cellphone or other small mobile device, podcasting may not be ideal.

Required Software/Hardware
Podcasting requires that you use a reasonably recent computer with the audio capability to play MP3 files (it probably does if you are online and reading this page without trouble).
Presuming you can, you then need to obtain podcast subscription software. Podcast software programs are small utilities, similar to your computer's on-screen CD player. The podcast program automatically checks your subscription(s) to see if new audio (MP3 files) is available, and then downloads them the audio your computer's hard drive for automatic playback at a time of your choosing.
Many podcast programs also handle moving MP3 files to portable players (e.g., your iPod can be filled up with the latest Ear to the Ground program that has been posted -- automatically).
There are a number of programs: Apple's iTunes; iPodder; PlayPod; Doppler; etc. All of them have their different bells and whistles, problems and supposed panaceas, so we make no particular recommendation. Our production director uses iTunes on the PC and Mac; our programming director uses iPodder on the PC; our webmaster listens to the broadcasts on the radio.

How to Subscribe to KUNM Podcasts
You will need to copy the URL -- the web address or "link" -- for the podcast into your podcast software (your player like iPodder, iTunes, etc).
How? [Right-Click] the orange "POD" grahic (or [Control][Click] in MacOS) and select "Copy" or "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Link".
Go to your podcasting software and find "Subscribe to Podcast" in your menus or your buttons, as the case may be. Paste the subscription link into your podcasting software when it is requested ( [Control][v] in Windows; [Apple][v] in MacOS).
In iTunes you can find this option under the "Advanced" menu as "Subscribe to podcast."
You may also copy the link out of the long text fields that appear with the podcast subscription descriptions.

Music Podcasts
Ear to the Ground, our live, local music showcase is available -- occasionally -- as a podcast.
However, you will not find Freeform and DJ-mixed podcasts at KUNM.org. Current music licensing agreements do not allow KUNM to offer this kind of podcast. Additionally, our podcasts are designed to focus on our locally-produced public affairs programming and our unique live shows.
