The Santa Fe Opera's Holiday Concerts

Wed. 12/12 10a:  Soprano Mary-Jane Lee and tenor Matthew Grills, both former Santa Fe Opera apprentices, are joined by members of the Opera's Young Voices program and flutist Valerie Potter for the Santa Fe Opera's annual Holiday Concerts for the community, December 13 at the Cristo Rey Church in Santa Fe and December 16 in the Simms Center on the campus of Albuquerque Academy.  Spencer Beckwith gets a preview of the concert from Music Director and pianist, Kirt Pavitt.

The Rebbe’s Orkestra presents “Kindling the Light"

Fri. 12/7 10a:  Albuquerque's popular Klezmer and Judaic ensemble, the Rebbe's Orkestra, celebrates Hanukkah and other musical traditions from around the globe on December 8 at Winning Coffee Company.  “Kindling the Light" includes a 13th century Venetian Hanukkah composition, an 18th century poem sung in Yiddish, and a traditional Sephardic ballad in Ladino. Spencer Beckwith speaks with the vocalist of the Rebbe's Orkestra, Beth Cohen, who will also be performing on violin, bowed psaltery, mandolin and penny whistle.

A Classics Radio Theater Version of Dicken's “A Christmas Carol”

Wed. 12/5 10a:  Spencer Beckwith speaks with playwright and director Becky Mayo about her new adaptation of "A Christmas Carol."  The production takes the audience into a radio station broadcasting Charles Dickens‘ beloved story live before a studio audience.  The radio theater production runs from November 30 through December16 at the Adobe Theater in Albuquerque.

Quintessence Hosts A Messiah Sing

Fri. 11/23 10a:  Spencer Beckwith speaks with Matthew Greer, Artistic Director of Quintessence: Choral Artists of the Southwest.  The Albuquerque chorus invites the community to a Messiah Sing, complete with chamber orchestra, November 24 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church.  The following weekend, December 1 and 2, Quintessence presents its holiday concert, "A Winter's Journey," at St. Paul Lutheran Church and St. John's United Methodist Church.

Wed. 10/3 10a:   French pianist Hélène Grimaud makes her New Mexico debut on October 23 with a solo concert at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe.  In addition to her international career as a musician, Hélène Grimaud is an advocate for wolf conservation, and proceeds from her October 23 concert, titled "Wild Harmonies," will benefit the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance and the Wolf Conservation Center.   Spencer Beckwith talks with the Santa Fe Director of the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, Demis Foster.
