Pawn Shop Sting Nets Thousands in Stolen Merchandise

Albuquerque, NM – Police recovered power drills and other tools, guns, a Sony Play Station and a four thousand dollar digital camera during a week-long sting operation.

Mayor Richard Berry made addressing property crime one of his priorities when he took office last year.

Albuquerque Public Safety Spokesperson T.J. Wilham says pawn shop owners and the police department have formed a new alliance to share information.

US House Vote to Let Bush Tax Cats for the Rich Expire

Albuquerque, nM – First District US Representative Martin Heinrich voted for the House Amendment. He says Republicans in the US Senate are holding middle class Americans hostage in order to ensure the extension of the Bush era tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.

"I don't understand why we can't ask some of the richest Americans to go back to a tax structure that was very successful in the late 90s at balancing our budget and growing our economy." Says Heinrich.

Commentary: Bolivians fight new anti-racism law seen as crackdown on press

Albuquerque, NM – Chellis Glendinning lives in Bolivia. The 30,000 petition signatures delivered to the government in November in support of repealing the newly-passed anti-racism law have apparently made little impact.

Bolivian Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera said in response there is no means for citizens to affect legislation and the number of signatures collected wasn't sufficient.

NM Senator Udall blasts Republicans for "appalling action" opposing legislation

Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico US Senator Tom Udall is railing against a Republican plan to block votes on key legislation.

Senate GOP leaders delivered a letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid signed by all 42 Republican Senators. In it, they say the remaining time in the lame-duck session of Congress should be dedicated to "critical issues of funding the government and preventing a job-killing tax hike".

Albuquerque, NM – The web site Politico.com reports Bingaman says he will make a decision early next year. The 67-year-old Bingaman tells Politico he had considered retiring before previous campaigns for re-election, as well, adding there are "many pros and cons" to the idea.

Allegations of Pay to Play Hit NM Game Commission and Dept of Game and Fish

Albuquerque, NM – There are more allegations of pay-to-play in Santa Fe this time suspicions of questionable decisions and influence with the state Game Commission and the Department of Game and Fish.

Joel Gay is with the New Mexico Wildlife Federation, which produced a report showing an alleged pattern of deference to special interests and lack of transparency.
