New Mexico’s Medicaid program is facing the possibility of a $300 million deficit by next year. The government run program provides health care to low-income children, people with disabilities, and the elderly. It’s funded with both state and federal dollars.
State lawmakers will meet next month in a special session to grapple with the state’s budget crisis. A quarter of all New Mexicans rely on Medicaid services and they’re worried about what they might lose.
